Data Center Migration - 20th June - Bluesquare to Centro

Dear customers,

On Saturday 20th June at 00:30 we will be migrating 10 of our 16 racks currently housed in Bluesquare Data Centre to a new facility in Hamel Hampstead North London. The six remaining racks comprising of our larger colocation customers will continue to be housed at Bluesquare until the end of their contractual obligation.

The new facility, named Centro, is one of the highest specification data centres in the country able to accommodate our future rack and network requirements. If anyone would like a little more information about the data centre please have a read here http://blog.gyron.net/

Our main reason for moving away from Bluesquare is down to the inability to expand network capacity to their location. Centro in contrast is geared towards larger clients and ISP’s with high bandwidth requirements.

Our commitment and focus has always been providing our customers with the highest quality network, ensuring no corners are cut along the way. With the move to Centro, we will be doubling network capacity supplied over two private wavelength fiber circuits used to terminate the connection between our two main routers. Latency will also be slightly reduced as the physical fiber distance will be shorter between our main networking rack in Telehouse North and Centro in North London.

Below is our schedule for the 20th
. Please note, times may vary depending on circumstances during the night/day.

00:30 - All services will be powered off and left in the racks to cool down for 40 minutes before being loaded on to vans.

05:30 - We expect to have all hardware loaded and ready to be transported to Centro with an approximate 45 minute drive time.

06:30 – Unloading of hardware at the Centro end begins.

10:30 – 12:00 - All core services should be online. Core services include: Router B, Core switching, Web Servers, DNS services, Backup Servers and Colocation Servers.

12:00 – 20:00 – Through this period racks will be powered on as and when cabling and auditing is complete (on a per rack basis).

20:00+ –
Final checks to ensure all auditing is complete and accurate, and that all services are online.

We’ve put a small Q and A section below aimed at providing answers to the most common questions.

1)    Will our IP(s) remain the same?
Yes, all IP’s will remain the same.

2)    Will the quality of network remain the same?
Yes absolutely, if anything there will be an improvement due to our own private fiber wavelength circuits from our Centro based router to our main router and networking rack in Telehouse House.

3)    Will any of your transit peers change?
No, our main networking rack in Telehouse terminates our transit peers including Tiscali, ENTA, NTL/Virgin and Goscomb.

4)    How many people will be involved in the move?
To ensure the move goes as smoothly and as quickly as possible, there will be five people involved in moving and racking equipment.

5)    Will our price increase?
Although Centro is a far superior to Bluesquare, we won’t be increasing prices on any of our services.

The move is essential to the continued growth of Apex Hosting. We are doing everything in our power to minimise downtime and inconvenience by performing the move during the very early hours of the morning, and during the weekend.
